This is so exciting. FEMME2010: No Restrictions [aka the Femme Conference] is in Oakland in 40 days! Things to know:

If you want to register, please do it NOW for the low cost of $75 because the price goes up to $95 on the 19th.
If you want to get hundreds of femmes to check your organization out, why not advertise in the program? Rates start at $50 and a whole frickin page ad is only $120. We’ll have one…
Oh! And the conference has a blog! So check it out and comment – our voices are *all* crucial!

And – because the Femme Family is hustling so many of us out to beautiful Oakland for the event, we’re throwing one more fun[d]raiser party on July 23: SPEAKEASY OF FEMME! Check back or find us on evil ol facebook for party details…

As Femme Pride week approaches, the NYC Femme Family is excited to announce four events designed to celebrate our fabulosity and build community. We welcome queer femmes of all makes, models and genders to our events, and many are open to allies and friends, too. We hope that however you celebrate Pride this year, that your life and work for liberation give back to you!

Tues June 15, 7:30 – 9:30pm, 713 Classon Ave, Apt 206, Brooklyn, $free/bring a dish to share
Kick off Femme Pride Week with a femme community dinner, at which we will utilize the potluck to honor our deep lez ancestry and queer activist present. Femme + femme-questioning only, please.

Thurs June 17, 10p-2a. Sugarland [221 N 9th St.], Brooklyn, $5
Co-Head Madam Bevin Branlandingham brings another installation of the Rebel Cupcake Cabaret! The theme is Queer Root, and it features performances by Rosie Lugosie, SirMamSir and the Missus, Lola Dean, and Damien Luxe. All femmes + queer allies are welcome.

Fri June 18. Paddles [250 W 26th St.], NYC 10:30p – 2:30. $10.
Orphanage play party!! SWITCH, New York City’s monthly genderqueer/women/trans/define it for yourself BDSM party, takes you into the dingy world of the wayward, Daddy Warbucks, Cruella DeVille and all those Nuns who’d grown tired of brats run amok. All queer genders welcome. Hostessed by Damien Luxe/Home for the Wayward.

DATE CHANGE! Next Femme Book Club: Bottle Rocket Hearts on March 8

After last night's amazing discussion at Femme Book Club, we picked next month's book. Zoe Whittall's Bottle Rocket Hearts. She is a Femme from Toronto, who we adore. And it is a Femme coming of age story! (We haven't had a lot of that in Book Club.) Again, totally try to get the book from an indie book seller. Our meeting will be Tuesday, March 2 at 7:15 at the Silver Spurs diner on the corner of Houston & LaGuardia Pl in Manhattan.

Update on the Femme Conference from the Femme Collective

Got this update from the Femme Collective about this August’s Femme Conference. I have to say I am more than a little bummed it won’t be in Atlanta where my heart lives and the Femme Mafia began (our parent chapter), but it is amazing that this event happens and the board works really hard (for free).

Dear Community Members,

Finances are tight for all of us these days, particularly for community-supported events requiring travel and lodging, like the Femme Conference. After a great deal of effort and research, we have determined that it is not financially possible for us to hold the 2010 Femme Conference in Atlanta as we had hoped to do. We are incredibly hopeful for our future as an organization, but we believe that Atlanta would be cost prohibitive to both the members of the Steering Committee and to the larger Femme Conference constituency. We realize this is a disappointment for many of us.

However, we have decided that rather than skip a year, we have the resources to hold the Femme Conference in Oakland in 2010. We are tremendously excited at the prospects of holding a conference in the city we had originally chosen for the very first Femme Conference (we ended up in San Francisco as a result of financial considerations, so this feels like a full-circle in some ways)!

We appreciate your understanding and your continued support. All details about hotel, dates and calls for submission will be announced at the beginning of February. We are excited and we hope you are too!

Femmes of Color Symposium!

Amazing!! This symposium is for all self-identified Femmes of Color who are lesbian, bisexual, gay and queer women—to explore who we are and how we are in the world. We are the builders and sustainers of this unique sisterhood of colored femmes who know it is not about how others see us, but how we see ourselves. Join us in breaking this new ground!
